Ep 26: Michael Malloy — The Man With Nine Lives | Return of the Buds
Hey Buds!
We're back — and we missed you more than you know.
If you haven't listened to our We're Back episode yet, start there first. It covers where we've been, what Kush & Crime looks like going forward, and introduces you to our new co-host, Briana — a familiar voice if you caught our 4/20 bonus episode, and your new favorite person if you haven't.
This week, we're kicking off the new season with one of the most unhinged true-crime cases we have ever come across. Cats aren't the only ones with nine lives — meet Michael Malloy.
It's 1932, Prohibition is in full swing, and a group of small-time con men in a Bronx speakeasy have a plan: take out a life insurance policy on the local drunk, kill him quietly, and split the payout. Simple. Easy. What could go wrong?
Everything, as it turns out — because Michael Malloy survived wood alcohol, rotten sardines stuffed with metal shards, a half-naked night in a Bronx park in the middle of winter, and a direct hit from a taxicab. The group the press would later call the Murder Trust tried everything short of an act of God. It took them months longer than it should have.
Roll up a fatty of Lemon Cherry Gelato and settle in. New episodes every Wednesday. Welcome back, Buds.
